Fyi: I'm a female, 135lbs & the small spats fit perfect; border being too tight. 140 & above I'd go medium personally.

For females, the spats have a great unisex fit, I feel like they could easily be make or female. I'm in LOVE with mine.

Hope I was of help. ??

Are spats made different for men and women? Particularily around the crotch? Or would buying a small size fit just fine?

There is no extra room in the crotch on men's spatz so I would assume they would fit women just fine in the crotch and everywhere else. I guess sizing would be the tricky part...

I have Meerkatsu spats, I can tell they're for men,, they do fit but the crotch is a bit long, and I find the waist tight (for the hips)
They're wearable but not the most comfortable

They aren't made differently, & fit perfect. Small would be good for 140 & under
