I would avoid having a black gi as your first gi if you're just starting, I would stick with blue or white. IMO, nobody really cares what kind/brand of gi you are wearing either, some people like very plain, some people love lots of patches and embroidery. Nobody will judge you based on your gi if it is a basic blue or white gi.

Just don't go in a strange off-color gi; stick to blue or white for your first few gi until you figure out what is kosher at your gym. Some gyms are very strict on gi color, but both blue and white are safe colors. Also, some gyms have rules about needing to wear a rashguard or t-shirt underneath, so keep that in mind too.

all depends on your school. Some schools don't care what gi color or brand you wear, some are very strict about it, just ask your professor or someone that works there. My school likes to have you wear either white, or blue (any brand is OK); Black is reserved for higher belts; but then, I've seen some lower belts wear black to train every now and then and nobody says anything. Again, it is all up to your specific school and where you train. If you don't have a gi yet at all, I would suggest white for your first, can't really go wrong with a white gi.

Yea, the pants are just weird to me, that is why I asked. I just asked my wife which she felt were heavier - the Hooks 2.0 pants or my kassen II pants; and she said by far the hooks pants. I love raven gear too ; the rashguards are awesome. I love the tight, rubber grip waist and I never have issues with it riding up while rolling. I am not a fan of this design though, but I do like the Eagle Warrior design that is somewhat like this - hope they have that on here soon.

Correct - ensure you received an order verification email, then a shipment confirmation email. If you did, and never received your item, just email customer service and they'll take good care of you. I once had an item I placed an order on but it never shipped; and that was due to me placing the order right before the size went out of stock - and it ended up being they were out of stock, so they canceled the order, and I was never charged.

besides that 1 incident, I have ordered a few dozen items from there and never had a problem, stuff gets to me rather quickly.

I have been using it for a couple days now - fits 2 of my Fuji A4 gis no problem, including belt, and set of spats/rashguard. Fits all my supplemental stuff (tape, misc stuff etc). Quality is really good; if you've ever had a swiss backpack, the backpadding and shoulder straps are comparable. It is a good sized bag and a total steal if you got it on this site. I would say definitely worth the full price they have it for now.

I love wearing these under my gi pants, as well as under shorts; I've got Ground Game, Raven and these standard spats by 93 brand and like these the best under my gi and under shorts. Fantastic compression and feel compared to other brands. I'm 6'2 225 and the 2XL fits me great; they are a little bit shorter on the legs than other brands, but it doesn't bother me much (I have longer legs though).

I'm assuming these are the same size/fit as the Fuji Kassen II - if so, when I got my A4 ( have it in blue and black) I was 6'3 250; now i'm at 225 and they still fit great. Just cold wash and hang dry and you should be fine.

Yes, some manufacturers make Women's sizes; generally they are F1-F4 or something to that effect instead of A1-A5 etc; 93 Brand has women's sizes almost always when those Gis come up for sale.

Depending on your build, generally the standard Gis fit fine and work; this looks like a great first Gi to get, especially at this price point. Remember if you're on the border of a size, size UP because Gis can always be shrunk (they naturally shrink when washed) but you can't get them to expand very easily :)

toss a little baking soda in the pre-wash; does wonders for the funk and you don't have to super shrink your gi. about 1/2 cup baking soda per load; then just the normal cold wash and hang dry etc. I started doing that about 2 months ago and it has revolutionized my gi washing experience. I am 6'3 220lb (I have a long torso, skinnier legs) and I use the XXL in the standard issue both long sleeve and short sleeve; it is snug in the torso, but not super tight, and I like it at that size. I think they described this as being similar to the standard issue fit.

I have used the 1st version for about a year straight, and it fits my Gi top, pants, spats, rashy and extra belts all with room to spare (I use a A4 gi btw). All zippers work great, and I even bought a 2nd backpack (the newer upgrade version shown above, last time it was up for sale) for traveling, because it has so many pockets and space to put things, it'd be a great traveling backpack too.

93brand Hooks V3 - Unbleached

Benjamin, This is a really good price for a quality Gi. But, this gi is NOT White - it is natural color (almost a beige) and is really good for custom dying or using as is; but just wanted to make sure you understood it is NOT a traditional White gi. I have one of these unbleached gis, love it, but it isn't close to the White you may be thinking of.

Some gyms have rules about which colors you can wear etc; just didn't want you to get this and find out it isn't truly white.

As I stated above, this isn't a truly White gi - more of a natural color. this price point though is great for the quality gis that 93 brand puts out.

You can expect a White gi at this price point usually 1-2 times a month; generally you will see the Tatami Nova in white, or 93 brand standard issue, or another decent to good quality starter gi in that price range on here each month. Then you have Rolling Deals, which is where they put up a different item every 20 min or so, and they are items that have odd sizes left in stock etc; so you can find white gis during rolling deals really easy.

The Inverted gear is in a different price range though; those generally bottom out at 99$ on this site and go up to 130$; really good gi for the money though, but not the same price point.

Fuji Sekai Gi

Their website (Fuji) doesn't list any weight for this gi; only thing it says is "lightweight pearl top" and "Ripstop pants".

If I were to guess, since the Fuji lightweight line is the superaito, and those are a 350gsm, my guess would this is around a 400- 425gsm ; I've found people who own both say the Superaito is noticeably lighter jacket, same pants on both.

This one is a very unique color; I can't speak for "most" gyms, but unless they specifically communicated a gi color standard, you should be OK. Our academy suggests the standard White, Blue and Black; but sometimes people wear Grey, Navy or some other acceptable alternate colors and Professor doesn't mind.

What I tell most new students I teach is the following: For your first 1-2 Gis, I would keep it White/Blue or Black. Then if you want to branch out to some alternate colors, it would be safe to do so.

Hyperlyte BJJ Gi - Black/Ice Blue

I'm 6'3 225 and the A3 is perfect for me; the Hyperlyte is a more fitted cut Gi than others I have.

With your build, most like a mix would work best (different sized pants/top) but if you want to get this gi from here, i'd go with jacket size; you can always hem the pants if needed.

I have a pair of their standard issue shorts; They have velcro closure, and an internal draw string. I would say they run pretty snug to pant size. I got the 36 waist, I wear usually a a 36 and they are a tad tight (they fit, just very snug). I would say they run a 1/2 size small. If I were to have gotten the 38, I think they would be loose, and I'd secure them with the internal draw string.

If you are going with a 32, i'd say it could be adjusted down to a 30 easier than going up to a 34.

I am 6'3 225 and the A4 is perfect sizing for me. I have all 3 colors of this (white, blue, black) such a great lightweight gi, and A4 is perfect size.

Flow Kimonos Alpine Pro BJJ Gi - White

If you're holding off ordering a Gi in general, you kind of just need to take a plunge and find something that you sit right in the middle of the size range. With this flow gi, (I don't own a Flow keep in mind) but you'd probably fit in the A2H range the best. You may just need to hem the bottom of your pants a bit or the jacket bottom a bit; jacket size is more important IMO, and usually gis will shrink a bit when you get them.

Depending on the brand, gi sizes can differ. Some brands I use a solid A4. Some I use a solid A3, and some i'm in-between with an A3L. Ordering a little bigger (or making sure you fit, but have enough space) is always the safe way to go because gis shrink much easier than expand :)

I am 6'3, 225lb and I would order this Flow gi in A4 with full confidence it would fit.

Love the fit of my Fuji - I have the Superaito series and Kassen II - both fit the same. I'm 6'3 230lb and the A4 fits perfect. Fuji for me has always been a very safe purchase size-wise; A4 has always fit me great. the size chart for Fuji seems spot-on. I hang-dry after washing and little to no shrink as well.

I have not had any issues with 93-brand stuff myself; I've got gear from backpacks to standard issue spats/rashies - long sleeve, short sleeve etc. I didn't like the fit of the 93-brand gis for myself, but that is just personal preference more than "Defective" stuff. Spats lasted me 3 years before knees started getting holes in them etc which is well longer than expected; other than that, great gear IMO.
